U11s Runners-Up In Cup Final 17-07-2011

Wilsden Cricket Club U11s lost bravely in the Barritt-Stephenson Cup Final.
In our first under 11s cup final Wilsden went into the game at Skipton CC as underdogs to last year winners Cullingworth. The weather was very poor with most of the game played in the rain but this never dampened the spirit of our boys.
Put in to bat and in difficult conditions, captain Sam Mitchell and Joe Heartfield got the innings off to a perfect start with a partnership of 30 before Sam departed for 17. This was followed by the quick wickets of Dan for a duck and Akash for only 6. With the experienced batters now gone Joe battled on to score 19 but there was little extra contribution from the team.
Batting the full 20 overs Wilsden finished on 53 for 8 which would be a tough target to defend.
We bowled and fielded well but the only highlight was the wicket of Cullingworth’s James Rogers, bowled by Joe Heartfield. Taking just 12 overs Cullingworth batted well against the pressure and were deserved winners.
With our mix of u11s, u10s, and u9s this was an amazing achievement for the team to reach the final with some fantastic performances in earlier rounds. We certainly are very proud of our boys!!

Cricket Roadshow at Wilsden 17-07-2011

The UAJCA Cricket Roadshow came to Wilsden with over 20 kids enjoying a great evening of Pro Coaching.
This coaching event has been funded by the Charitable Youth Trust and the coaches Matt Dawson and Liam Dyson provided a suberb range of drills for the boys and girls. Despite the typical Wilsden summer weather everyone had a brilliant time and thanks to the UAJCA for organising the event.

Under 13s Win Cup 03-07-2011

Wilsden CC Juniors under 13s secured a great victory in the UAJCA John Hindle Memorial Cup Final at Cullingworth. This was the team’s second appearance in the final in subsequent years and this year they went one better to win the cup.
On a beautiful sunny morning Wilsden played a good team from Ingrow and having won the toss, Wilsden put Ingrow in to bat.
With the score at 16 we were soon rewarded with the early wickets of the openers with both batters falling to Ben Jagger. A good partnership from Will Rankin & Dan Scott took Ingrow to 48 before Akash Gopal broke the partnership with the wicket of Will Rankin. Joe Heartfield then got another wicket leaving Ingrow struggling at 49-4. A quick blast from Aiden Kelly (18) boosted the score to 73 before Joe Heartfield claimed his second wicket having Kelly caught with a great catch from brother George. The tail fell quickly with wickets from Ben Jagger and Uwais Mehmood, before Joseph Jagger claimed the last wicket that left Ingrow all out for 91.
Ben Jagger finished with figures of 4 for 15, whilst Uwais Mehmood 2 for 4, and Joe Heartfield 2 for 19, also bowled exceptionally. The boys all fielded well and supported the bowlers with 4 catches and a brilliant stumping by Daniel Murphy.
After the break, and with an average total to achieve, Wilsden got off to the worst possible start losing opener George Heartfield LBW, with the score on 2. Captain Sam Murphy then joined Jacob Jagger to steady the innings and they carefully built a great partnership of 43. Jacob was out on 15 just before Sam retired not out with a great knock of 31. With 2 new batters in, the innings threatened to wobble losing Ben Jagger for a duck and Daniel Murphy for 4. A very nervy but valuable 17 partnership from Joseph Jagger and Joe Heartfield took Wilsden to 84 and clearly in sight of the target. Joe Heartfield was then run out with a direct hit adding again to the tension, but Uwais Mehmood joined Joe to see Wilsden home with 6.4 overs to spare.
This was a great all-round team effort from all the boys and Wilsden CC Juniors have now won their first trophy in only our 3rd season. Well done lads!!!
